Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 5,016 store lambs (including 1,581 Greyface Mule lambs) on Tuesday 18th August 2020 at Longtown.

Another super show of quality lambs were on offer with a large company of buyers; plus several from Wales present, trade was strong throughout with all classes firmer on the week to average £73.57 overall.

Top was £125 for Beltex ewe lambs from Messrs Milburn, Wallend Farm, Greenhead. Texels to £98 from Messrs Edminson, Middle Farm, Crindledykes. Store lambs sold to £96 for Texels from JW Watson, New Dorryfield, Roweltown; Beltex to £97 Wallend, £86, £84 Flatt (Atkinson); Suffolks to £85, £80 Barnsallie, £80 Boreland, £79 Twislehope; Cheviots to £83.50 Boreland, £80 Twislehope, £76 North Howes; Charollais to £83 Tarrasfoot; Cheviot Mules to £78 Gillesbie, £77 Sorbietrees; Zwartbles to £66 Dempster, £65 Glebehead.

Included in todays sale was the annual special sale of 1,581 Greyface Mule lambs, a great entry with many quality pens forward sold at an extreme trade to average £69.83 overall. Top £89, £82 from Kilberry Home Farm, £86 High Lovelady Shield, £83 Bayldon & Baggarah.

Feeding ewes to £63 Barmagachan Farm.

Cast rams to £81 for Cheviots from Blackhall.

BREEDING SHEEP

A strong entry of breeding sheep met a keen enquiry with many more required for the next sale to meet buyers’ requirements, selling to a top of £140 for a pen of Beltex ewes from Messrs Lee, Coalfell followed at £126 for a pen of Texel four shear ewes.
