Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

Marts had forward 6,778 store lambs, feeding ewes and cast rams at their weekly
sale at Longtown on Tuesday 14th October 2025.

All classes
dear again on the week with more new faces appearing around ring side each week
looking for numbers. A large show of long keep lambs on offer faced by
purchasers travelling from all four corners of the country.

A massive Thank

sponsored by the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association.

3,377 Cheviot and Blackface lambs
were sold at the weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 14th October.  A
crowded ringside saw strong demand with more Southern buyers present as the
drought eases.

An exceptional show of Blackface
lambs, sponsored by The Scottish Farmer, were presented to the judge, William
Crew of Gall Farm. He selected as champions a pen of 32 from Michael Moscrop,
Collin Bank, Bewcastle and backed his fancy by buying them at £100.  This was
closely followed by the 3rd  prizewinners from Upper Hindhope at
£99.  The 2nd prize pen from The Glen made £81. Other Blackface
lambs sold to £98, The Crew; £96, West Deanraw; £95, Cowden Burn; £90, £88
& £84, Town Shields; £89 & £86, Mochrum Estates & £87,
Halterburnhead.

A grand entry of Cheviot lambs
were topped at £119 for North Countries from Hownam Grange with others from the
same home to £111 & £103. Crossdykes led the South Countries at £109 with
Crosslee at £107 & Glendinning at £106.  Other Cheviots to £106, Winter
Crag; £106 & £104, Lawesknowe; £105, South End, Kielder; £104, High Brae;
£103, Lymiecleugh; £100 & £99, Glendinning; £97, Crossdykes & £96, The
Binks.

A tremendous run of 606 lambs
from Penchrise sold to £95 for Cheviots and £80 for Blackfaces.
