C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 3,129 sheep comprising of 251 spring lambs, 1,209 hoggs and 1,669 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 28th May 2026.

NEW SEASON SPRING LAMBS

An increased entry of 251 spring lambs with the handy weight well bred lambs selling with ease, many more numbers required on a weekly basis as more firms look to switch over the next coming weeks.

Top price per head of £290 for a tremendous Beltex lamb shown by JA & LA Thompson, Woodhead, Scaleby, which also achieved the top price per kilo of 547p.

PRIME HOGGS

A small entry of 1,209 prime hoggs forward with a lot of cleaning up hoggs on offer. Heavies were in very big demand, constantly selling between £230-250 and handy weight well fed hoggs regularly at 430-450p per kilo.

Top price of £266 for Texel hoggs from J Donaghue, Trawill, Todhills with top per kilo of 497p for Beltex from M Dunlop, Corstane, Broughton

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A smaller show of 1,669 cast ewes and rams forward with the best ewes much dearer again on the week, whilst heavy ewes remaining similar. Plainer sorts met some resistance. Many more ewes needed going forward.

Texel ewes sold to a top of £395 from Blackside Farms.  

Cheviot ewes selling to £188 from RM Fishwick, Thornship, Shap.   

Rams topped at £290 for a Texels from Horsemarket.

CAST COWS

A mixed offering forward to the usual ringside of buyers. The sale topped at £2,092 for a Limousin cow shown by Shankbridge End Farm Ltd, Hethersgill with others to £2,013 from M Hall, Tombuie, Dalmally. Luing cows sold to £1,509 from Ardencaple Farms, Oban. Top per kilo of 274p from Tombuie and 270p Shankbridge End for Limousin cows with Luings from Ardencaple topping at 258p. More numbers are required on a weekly basis to satisfy buyer demand.
