C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 4,649 sheep comprising of 1,407 prime lambs and 3,242 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 9th July 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
A larger show of 1,407 lambs forward to the same competitive ring of purchasers ensuring all classes sold to increased rates of return. A shortage of numbers nationwide ensured Longtown customers were rewarded.
Well fed lambs continue to be wanted for the coming weeks, still being sold to vendor advantage.
Top price per head of £236 for Texels from AM & L Sutherland, Carran, Thurso.
Top per kilo of 465p for Beltex lambs from JA & LA Thompson, Woodhead, Scaleby.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
Another similar entry of 3,242 cast ewes and rams were forward to a full ring of 15 active purchasers ensuring all classes sold to biblical rates of return, those who chose to sell ewes at Longtown today were dually reward as some customers quote being £10-£12 up on other centres. The prices really do speak for themselves. Keep the numbers coming for premium returns.
