LONGTOWN SUFFOLK GIMMERS TO 1,300 GNS
TEXEL GIMMERS TO 1,100 GNS
The annual “July Jewels” sale of MV accredited breeding females at Longtown on Tuesday 20th July attracted considerable interest with on-line bidding playing a major part.
Topping the sale at 1,300gns was a Suffolk gimmer from Judith and Iain Barbour`s Annan based Solwaybank flock. A Solwaybank Masterpiece daughter, she sold to the far north of Scotland to H.M. Sutherland, Drummuie Farm, Golspie. Mr Sutherland took another Solwaybank gimmer, by Solwaybank Seemego, at 1,100gns. Other Suffolk gimmers sold to 800gns and 750gns from Burghhead; and 800gns (twice) and 750gns (twice) from Solwaybank. Suffolk ewes sold to 750gns. Suffolk ewes and gimmers averaged £871.
Leading the Texel gimmer section at 1,100gns was a Duncryne Hiddenseek daughter, out of a Haymount Enter the Dragon dam from Allan Campbell, Strawfrank, Carstairs. She was purchased by Matthew Thomson, Pilmuir, Hawick. Gordon Gray`s Ettrick flock took 800gns for a gimmer by Overburns Hulk, bought by Messrs Ryder, Seaville, Cumbria. Other Texel gimmers made to 700gns and 600gns (twice) from William Knox, Mid Haddo, Aberdeenshire and 600gns from Andrew Clark, Teiglum. Texel gimmers levelled at an average of £571. Beltex gimmers from Mid Brockloch had a full clearance to average £434.
