C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 5,651 sheep comprising of 2,657 prime lambs and 2,994 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 13th August 2026

PRIME LAMBS

An increased show of prime lambs forward sold inline with national trends achieving an average of 323.1ppk.  Well fed lambs of all weights especially heavier sheep sold well being still in demand. Grass fed sheep met some resistance with the leaner end proving difficult to place and would be better sold through the store market here on a Tuesday. 

Top price per head of £216 for Beltex lambs shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries, who also achieved the top price per kilo of 455p again for Beltex.

A similar show of 2,994 of cast ewes and rams forward to the same ring of competitive purchasers ensuring all classes sold to vendor advantage. Lean meated good Continental ewes proved to be in short supply with many more required to fulfil purchaser demand.  

Heavy ewes topped at £350 for a Texel from J Halliday & Son, Linnhead, Lockerbie.

Light ewes topped at £178 for Cheviots shown by JT Fleming & Son, Falnash, Hawick.

Rams topped at £255 for a Suffolk from J & D Longlands, Tone Hall, Hexham.
