C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 6,444 sheep comprising of 2,638 prime lambs and 3,806 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 20th August 2026

PRIME LAMBS

Prime lambs sold to the same ring of competitive purchasers. Trade was slightly better than forecast albeit slightly less than last weeks rates of return.

Well fed sheep were still wanted whilst leaner sheep proved difficult to shift and would be better suited to a Tuesday store sale at Longtown. 

Top price per head of £210 for Texel lambs shown by D & T Bradley Farmer, Wester Parkgate, Dumfries.

Top price per kilo of 386p for Beltex from J Watret, Burnside, Annan.

Overall average 315.5p (SQQ 319.4p)

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A larger show of 3,806 of cast ewes and rams forward. all classes met some resistance but with feeding orders coming into play the leaner ewes still met a buoyant trade.

Heavy ewes topped at £330 for Texel ewes shown by Beckfoot Farms.

Light ewes topped at £170 for Easycare ewes from R Harrison & Sons, Peddar Hill, Longtown.

Rams topped at £260 for Texels from TC Whiteford, Tercrosset, Brampton.
