C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 6,287 sheep comprising of 2,970 prime lambs and 3,217 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 27th August 2026

PRIME LAMBS

A larger show of 2,970 prime lambs was forward to the same ring of competitive purchasers ensuring all classes were firmer on the week. Many more fed lambs can be sold to vendor advantage here at Longtown keep them coming for premium returns.

Top price per head of £212 for Beltex lambs shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries who also sold the top price per kilo lambs at 429p again for Beltex.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A slightly smaller show of 3,217 of cast ewes and rams forward with all classes a stand on trade from the high returns of last week’s trading. More ewes wanted on a weekly basis to satisfy demand. Please don’t hesitate to contact our auctioneers for further enquiries.

Light ewes topped at £168 for Kendal Rough ewes from I Kyle, Church View, Roweltown.

CAST COWS & OTMS’S

Cast cows remain in demand with numbers required on a fortnightly basis to satisfy demand. The sale topped at £2,074 for a Beef Shorthorn from JA & E Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie who also sold Angus cows at £1,909. Limousin x sold to £1,669 from R Moscrop & Son, Border Rigg, Bewcastle.

Top per kilo of 248p and 244p for Angus and Shorthorn cows from Archerbeck with Dexters selling to 232p from Gilchristland Farm, Thornhill.
