Longtown Breeding Sheep Wed 14 Oct

C&D Auction marts held their sale of 3,400 breeding sheep of all classes at Longtown on Wednesday 14th October 2026

a seasonal show of breeding sheep sold to a packed ring of potential purchasers.

Incorporated in today’s sale was the entire dispersal of Northumberland bred Blackface ewes consigned from

M/s BD & MS Hope, Mouldy Hills, Canonbie.

This stock of Blackface ewes were a credit to David, Thomas and Harry who have spent decades perfecting their sheep, they really did have to be seen to be appreciated. Topping M/s Hopes dispersal sale was a pen of very bonny Blackie ewe lambs which caught the eye of several stock masters from across the North of England, with the hammer finally going down at £305 to renowned north of England Mule producers and Blackface enthusiasts M/s J Carr & Son, Camphill, Hexham. A further pen of sheep which stood out in todays sale was their top draw of the three crop ewes which were a magnificent pen of sheep, full of breeding and their potential limitless. This wonderful pen of ewes went onto realise £280 to proud Blackface breeders, M/s W & PF Walton Penpeugh, Bardon Mill, Hexham.

The board of directors, Auctioneers and all the staff at C&D Auction Marts wish David, Thomas & Harry all the best for their future ventures.

Topping the Cheviot section was a pen of six seriously well-bred gimmers consigned by M/s A & A Elliot, Hindhope. After frantic telephone and ringside bidding the auctioneer dropped the gavel at a marvellous £550 selling to a telephone bid from M/s McArthur, Arnicle, Campbelltown.
