Kirkcambeck Sale of Store Cattle Sat 17 Oct

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 1,091 store cattle at the Annual “Kirkcambeck” sale on Saturday 17th October 2026.

Native bred cattle were presented for sale in tremendous form to the biggest ring of potential purchasers seen for many a year. Many more could have been sold to vendor advantage at this venue.

Judging for the pre-sale show was ably carried out by Mr David Teasdale, Grindon Hill, who found his best pen of heifers in the Angus section from Messrs Forster, Smithsteads which later realised £1,780.

Topping the sale was a pair of overage Aberdeen Anguss steers shown from PAD Boyle, Mallsgate Hall, which went onto realise £2,380

Heifers peaked at £2,260 for a shapley black Galloway heifer consigned by the herdmasters at Peela Hill.

Short keep cattle sold well with many surpassing £2,000. Trade of the day was the younger end selling to frantic bidding as customers where very keen to purchase longer term native cattle.

After an increase of over 300 cattle entered, the numbers proved no problem as many potential customers went home empty handed, with more being required on a yearly basis to satisfy an ever growing demand here at Longtown.
