C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 10,308 sheep comprising of 5,623 prime lambs and 4,685 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 5th November 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
A larger show of 5,623 prime lambs forward to an increased ring of potential purchasers ensuring all classes sold to and maintained recent high rates of return. Many more fed lambs can be sold to vendor advantage at Longtown and numbers are required on a weekly basis to satisfy customer demand.
Top price per head of £400 for Texels lambs from Horsemarket, which also topped the price per kilo at 533p.
Suffolks sold to £300 from HM Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
A much larger show of 4,685 cast ewes and rams forward to an increased ring of purchasers, with all classes totally eclipsing other centres returns. The prices speak for themselves being £15-£18 up across the board. Keep the numbers coming for premium returns.
Heavy ewes sold to a top of £365 for Texels from NR Woodmass, Harene.
Lightweight ewes sold to a top of £165 for Cheviots from A Kennedy & Son, Tom of Cluny, Aberfeldy.
Rams peaked at £320 for Texels from A & HC Smith, Crumhaughhill, Hawick.

A larger show of 36 cast cows were forward with the majority being hill cows. An increased ringside of buyers operating, although following the national trend, all classes of cows met resistance. The sale topped at £1,824 for a Simmental x from IHG Warden, Skelfhill, Hawick.
