Kintrye Breeding Sheep Sat 19 Sept 26
CAMPBELTOWN RAMS TO £1,600
On Saturday 19th September, C & D Auction Marts Ltd. conducted the annual show and sale of breeding sheep at Campbeltown on behalf of the Kintyre Agriculture Society. A crowded sale field ensured a strong trade throughout.
A quality multi-breed show of rams saw a top price of £1,600 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from D. Armour & Son, Kilkeddan. He was purchased by R. Millar, High Cattadale who took another from Messrs Armour at £1,500. Kilkeddan had other Bluefaced Leicesters at £1,350, £1,100 and £1,000. Other Leicester shearlings sold to £1,200, £1,1,00 and £1,000 twice from P. Grumoli, Milnknowe. Overall, the Bluefaced Leicester rams averaged a centre record £945.
Texel rams sold to £1,300 for a shearling from J. & J. McLachlan, Benmore Street, bought by R. Currie, Low Dunashery with another from Messrs McLachlan at £1,000. A Texel shearling from P. Grumoli made £1,100 with David MacArthur, Dalmore selling at £1,000. Texel rams averaged £808.
The Suffolk entry averaged £921, selling to £1,100 from Jamie McPhee, Low Ranachan going to H.F. Duncan, East Skeroblin. Other Suffolks made to £1,000 from Thomas Cameron, Gartvaigh, N. McArthur, Highbank Park and Taylor Purser, Kilwhipnoch.
Crossbred rams reached £1,150 for a Texel cross Beltex from J. &. J. McLanachan, Benmore Street with R. & J. Lines Killocraw selling two of their pen at £1,000. Cheviot rams from Balure sold to £800.
In the gimmer section, pens of Mules from Keil made to £240 with others from Cara View at £240 and £235. Blackface gimmers topped at £250 and £240 from Brennanlea with Blackface ewes £165 Ballywilline and Blackface ewe lambs £135 Coulinlongart. Suffolk x ewe lambs £165 Highbank Park. Mule ewe lambs £155 Corran and Albyn Avenue. Texel x ewe lambs £135 High Dalrioch.
