N.C. CHEVIOT RAMS TO £4,000 AT LONGTOWN
TRADITIONAL BLUEFACED LEICESTER RAMS TO £2,200
The Border Ram Sale held by C & D Auction Marts at Longtown on Monday 28th September attracted a massive ringside of bidders and spirited bidding throughout.
Show & Sale for the North Country Cheviot Sheep Society.
The Cheviot ram sale was one of the best ever held at this centre with averages up over £300 on the year and reflecting the increasing entries of quality rams retained for this event which is held in conjunction with the mart`s annual Border Ewe Sale. The pre-sale show was ably judged by James Metcalfe of Greenhill Cheviots who selected as first prize in the Park shearling section a Broomhillbank Evergreen son from Scott Davies, North Synton, Ashkirk, Selkirk which sold at £4,000 to W. Brown, Hilton of Culsh. Turriff. The show leader in the Hill section was an aged ram, Commonside Barbarian, from C. R. Graham, Carruthers, Lockerbie which went back to Commonside at £1,500.
Taking £3,600 was Soutra Gullane, by Wandylaw Elvis from A. Mathewson, Soutra, Pathhead, bought by C.E. Parsons, Slealands, Longtown. North Synton had a £2,600 sale to Messrs Beard, Dormansteads and Messrs James Runciman`s consignment from Allanshaws, Galashiels had a sale at £2,400 to A.E. Harrison, Taw House, Holmrook with two others in the Allanshaws pen making £2,000. W.D. Allen, Humbleheugh, Alnwick sold to £2,300 to Messrs Harryman.

Traditional Bluefaced Leicester Rams
A larger entry of Bluefaced Leicester shearling rams with many strong rams forward sold well to a top of £2,200, achieved twice by G. Smith and Sons, West Bolton, Alnwick, each of these selling to regular purchaser J.R. Weir, Elva Plain, Cockermouth. West Bolton sold others at £1,500 (twice) and their pen had an overall average of £1,430. R.A. McLymont & Son, Kirksteads, Yarrow had the next highest average of £1,300 to include a sale at £2,000 to Messrs McIntosh, Borthwickshiels, Roberton. Selling to £1,900 was Mr H. Huddleston, Round Meadows, Catton, Hexham who had the third-highest pen average of £1,083. Over Finlarg had a sale at £1,500 with others from this home to £1,000.
