Longtown Primestock Report – 12 March 2026

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 10,154 sheep comprising of 6,609 hoggs and 3,545 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 12th March 2026.

PRIME HOGGS

Very similar numbers forward sold to an increased ringside of buyers ensuring all classes were dearer again on the week. A shortage of best export sheep on offer with majority consisting of hill bred hoggs regularly selling away 400ppk plus. Well-bred and fed heavies 56kg plus selling between £200 to £225 throughout the sale.

Incorporated in the weekly sale of prime hoggs was the Prize Show and Sale of Blackface hoggs, with the judging in the capable hands of James Linsley who awarded the prizes as follows:

A larger entry of 3,541 cast forward dearer again on the week especially the plainer end of ewes with 14 active buyers operating on several different accounts. Many more cast sheep will be needed going forward into the next few weeks, please contact our auctioneers for any enquires.
