Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 6,046 sheep comprising
of 4,099 prime hoggs and 1,947 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at
Longtown Mart on Thursday 2nd January 2025.

The weekly sale of cast cows resumed with a buoyant trade for all
classes. The sale topped at 249p and 245p for Friesians shown by CT & J
Wigham, Hethermill, Kirklinton, which also topped per head at £1,469 and
£1,372. Limousin cows sold to £1,196 from Shankbridge End Farms, Hethersgill.

A
smaller show of 4,099 prime hoggs
were forward, with fed hoggs of every class
proving very good to sell. Under finished, grass fed hoggs are better sold in
the store on a Tuesday here at Longtown to gain maximum returns. Heavy hoggs definitely
the call of the day with several runs of 50kg+ hoggs averaging over £180, with
runs of export hoggs regularly achieving 360ppk +. Hoggs travelled from all
corners of the United Kingdom with all vendors going home highly delighted with
their days trading. Many more fed hoggs wanted for the coming weeks to satisfy
an ever increasing demand at Longtown.

remember. Numbers way short of purchaser requirements and big numbers of ewes
wanted every week to satisfy a serious demand.
