Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 10,677 sheep
comprising of 5,105 lambs and  5,572 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale
at Longtown Mart on Thursday 2nd October 2025.

PRIME LAMBS

A
much larger show of 5,105 prime lambs forward to the same ring of competitive
purchasers ensured all classes sold to vendor benefit.

Well
finished lambs were in demand and under finished lambs are still better sold
here on a Tuesday in the store.

Topping
the sale was a Texel lambs consigned by M/s P Foster, Grange farm realising
415ppk

Topping
per head was a heavy weight Texel lambs consigned by M/s Sutherland, Carran,
Caithness realising £255 per head.   

Many
more well finished lambs can be sold to vendor advantage here at Longtown where
numbers are handled with ease in the most consistent market in the country.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A huge show of 5,572 ewes sold to a competitive
ringside of 17 purchasers ensuring all classes were well bid for meeting
another buoyant trade throughout. Numbers handled again with ease and are
actively sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy demand.

Topping the heavy ewes sold to £340 for a pure bred
humdinger consigned by M/s Thompson, Howburn, Alston

Lightweight ewes sold to £150 for a pen of Easycare
ewes consigned from  Messrs Sutherland, Hill House, Lauder.
