Auction Marts Limited had forward an entry of 7,254 sheep comprising of 5,206 hoggs
and 2,048 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday
3rd April 2025
.

Another large very mixed
show of 5,206 Prime Hoggs
were forward to a full ringside of 17 purchasers ensuring all
classes were competitively bid for. Again fed Continental hoggs 33-44kg sold at
a premium and proved to be way short of purchaser requirements, heavies showed
some improvements being in front of recent rates of return. Many more small and
export hoggs are required on a weekly basis to satisfy and ever growing
customer demand here at Longtown.

Topping the sale was a
fantastic pair of Beltex hoggs at £202 from Mrs A.E. Story, Hobbiesburn,
Longtown, also realising this price was a single Beltex hogg from M/s Moir,
Cairness.

Top price per kilo was also
for Beltex hoggs at 432p from Carrick Primestock, Lyonpark, Ayrshire.

A very well presented run of
inside fed heavy hoggs from M/s Moir, Cairness sold to a top of £202 achieving
an average of over £180 for 200 sold.

A fantastic run of light
weight, mainly Blackie and Cheviot bred hoggs, consigned by Mr M Kay,
Haresteads sold to a flying trade topping at 398ppk and achieving an average of
350ppk for over 1,200 sold.

A smaller show of 2,048 cast ewes and
rams
were
forward to another bustling ring of purchasers. All classes again sold to blistering
rates, with all classes being way short of purchaser requirements. Trade simply
eclipsed every other center this week and forecast to carry on for the forseeable
future. Many more ewes are wanted on a weekly basis to satisfy the biggest
demand for ewes in the UK. Keep them coming.

price per kilo goes to WD & B Thompson, East Unthank, for a Limousin cow
making 305ppk.

Top
price per head was a well fleshed Aberdeen Angus cow realising £2,595 from Ross
Taylor, Little Gill.
