Longtown Primestock Report – 05 March 2026

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 9,513 sheep comprising of 6,512 hoggs and 3,001 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 5th March 2026.

PRIME HOGGS

A similar show of 6,512 hoggs were forward to a full contingent of buyers with  fed sheep still in big demand. Export hoggs seen to biblical rates of return regularly over 400ppk and still countless pens of heavies £180 plus. Small hoggs 30kg to 35kg consistently around 390ppk plus.  

Included in the market averages were again a vast amount of hill bred hoggs (3,594) selling with great ease.

Incorporated in the weekly sale of prime hoggs was the prize show and sale of Cheviot hoggs kindly sponsored by PJ Tractor Parts, Longtown. The directors, auctioneers and all the auction mart staff would like to thank all parties involved with today’s show and sale.

An entry of 3001 cast ewes proved very good to sell with all classes meeting increased demand. Many more wanted on a weekly basis to satisfy customer demand. Keep them coming for premium returns. 

Heavy ewes topped at £365 for Texel ewes consigned by R & A Harrison, Hazel Head, Kirkland.   

Light ewes topped at £162 for Blackface ewes from E & TN Ballantyne, Cowburnrigg, Haltwhistle.
