Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction
Marts Limited had forward an entry of 7587 sheep, comprising of 4672 prime
hoggs and 2915 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday
20th March 2025
.

All Classes of prime hoggs show an increase in the week being well
in front of other outlets. Hoggs forecast to be firmer again in the back end of
the week, especially smalls and export weights. Please don’t hesitate to
contact our auctioneers for all further enquiries regarding the marketing of
your prime stock.

The sale topped at 502ppk for
a pen of Beltex hoggs shown by M & J Kennedy, Lurgan, Perthshire.

Top per head of £200 was
achieved twice, with Texels from C.C Macarthur & Co, Nunnerie, Biggar and Beltex
hoggs from Mactaggart Bros & Co, Castle Douglas.

Today we held a Special Prize Easter
Show and sale of Prime Cattle with a fantastic show forward which were highly
sought after. Many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. A big thank
you to Mr Ian Carlisle, Border Meats for coming and doing a marvellous job of
judging the prime cattle. 

Top price of the day went to the reserve
champion making her way north to show her quality. She was bred and sold by
Mark Statton, Highlaws Farm, this incredible British Blue Heifer made 820ppk
and £4797.

new face around ringside. Top price per head today was a Charolais stock bull
from Andrew Reid & Co, Glendearg realising £2783. Topping the pence per
kilo section at 278ppk achieved twice for two tremendous Charolais cows from
previously mention Andrew Reid & Co, Glendearg. Many more cast cows needed
on a weekly basis to meet the ever-growing ring side of buyers.
