Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 8,523 sheep
comprising of 5,326 lambs and  2,967 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale
at Longtown Mart on Thursday 20th November 2025.

PRIME LAMBS

Another
great entry of 5,326 prime lambs forward to a full ringside of purchasers
ensuring all grades of well finished lambs were keenly sought after realising
the dearest trade of the season.

Well
finished lambs of all weight categories sold at increased rates of return yet
again being in big demand and way short of purchaser requirements. Many more
are required for the next 4 weeks, which will be in big demand and sold to
advantage.  Many more fed lambs can be sold to vendor advantage at Longtown
Auction.

Numbers
handled with ease if they’re well finished and keenly sought after. Leaner
lambs are better sold on a Tuesday in Longtown.   

Top
Price per Head was a pair of Texel lambs from M/s K & M Jamieson, Woodhead
reaching £220

Top
Price per Kilo went to a pen of Beltex Lambs from M/s Roots, Kilnford Croft
realising  460ppkp/kg.

M/s
B Findlay, East Balgillo, Forfar made the trip south to Longtown with 202
heavy, very finely tuned beltex cross lambs. This exceptional run of lambs
topped at £214 achieving a fantastic overall average of £193.52 and 394ppk

M/s
G & W Halliday, Crawthat sold another exceptional run of 72 lambs topping
at £208 for a pen of 26 Beltex lambs averaging just over £200.

M/s
Patterson, South Boreland, sold 14 heavy Suffolk lambs to average 60kg and £183

weight Mules topped at £166 for 54kg consigned by regular vendors

E & TN Ballantyne, Cowburnrigg, Haltwhistle.

Blackface lambs consigned by noted producers M/s Ridley, Shitlington Hall, Wark
sold to a top of £157 for a pen of 10 tup lambs with this run of Mules and Blackface
lambs averaging £153 and 49kg.

Plenty
runs of heavy lambs achieving averages north of £170 proving to be short of
purchaser requirements and keenly sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy
demand.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A similar entry and again a very mixed show of 3,197
cast ewes and rams were forward. All classes of cast ewes and rams took a
substantial lift on the week. They’re a big trade and numbers tightening will
result in another lift in trade. keep the numbers coming for premium returns in
the coming weeks.  Numbers of all grades of cast ewes and rams are keenly
sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy an ever-growing customer demand here
at Longtown.

A reduced show of cows forward mostly consisting of
hill type cows again. Trade was flying throughout the sale and many more can be
sold to advantage at Longtown. A ringside full of buyers ensuring all classes
were highly contended for topping at £2985 for a hefty black lady. Many more
cows needed each week here at Longtown please do not hesitate to contact our
