Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 6682
sheep comprising of 16 Spring Lambs, 4417 hoggs and 2249 cast ewes & rams
at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 24th April 2025.

SPRING LAMBS

Topping the sale were two pens of Charollais Lambs at
£168 from Whittaker, Hundalee

Top price per kilo was a pen of 5 Charollais Lambs at
382p/kg from Whittaker, Hundalee

PRIME HOGGS

A larger show of 4,417 prime hoggs were forward, with
trade being sharper on the week for  55kg plus hoggs. Export hoggs were in very
short supply and highly sought after. More numbers are required to meet buyer’s
demand.

Topping the sale was a tremendous Texel hogg from
Highfield Farming LTD, The Knock realising £250.

Top price per kilo was a fantastic Beltex hogg from EJ
& AM Fox, ST Johns Kirk reaching 500ppk.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A slightly smaller show of 2249 cast ewes and rams were
forward on the week, with recent premium rates being maintained. Many more best
ewes could have been handled with 64 ewes achieving £300 or more.

Trade looks set to stay over the next few weeks.
