Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 5,048 sheep
comprising of 1,359 Spring Lambs, 833 hoggs and 2,856 cast ewes & rams at
their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 26th June 2025.

PRIME LAMBS

Another
strong show of lambs forward for the time of year. All classes again in demand
and look well sold. More grass fed lambs forward which should be taken into
consideration. Heavies proved to sell to increased rates, the dearest seen this
season, as purchasers have now moved from hoggs to new season lambs in full
force. Lightweight lambs were plentiful and a trade to match.  

More
lambs are required on a weekly basis. All major outlets are represented round
the ring at Longtown Auction Mart represented by 13 purchasers ensuring a very
competitive trade for all classes of lambs from start to finish.

Top price per head was at £217 for a single Texel lamb
from R. Johnston, Kimmeter Green

Top price per kilo reached 423.3p for three Beltex
lambs from Northway

CAST EWES AND RAMS

All
classes of ewes still in demand. More freshly spained, hard working ewes
forward which resulted in a lesser show.

Best
ewes saw an increase in trade as more purchasers flock to Longtown to take
advantage of the numbers on offer.

All
classes looking well sold and vendors are advised to sell as and when the ewes
are ready to go before numbers come out in force.
