C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 7,133 sheep comprising of 3,316 prime lambs and 3,817 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 17th September 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
A smaller show of 3,316 prime lambs forward. Best lambs sell with great ease and in very short supply. A lot of weight on offer realising last weeks high rates of returns. Over a third of the sale consisted of hill bred lambs and light weight lambs which were highly contended for.
Top price per head of £222 for Texel lambs from D & S Macpherson, Castlehills, Berwick with top price per kilo of 422p for Beltex lambs shown by M & M Byrne, Thornthwaite Close, Wigton.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
A similar show of 3,817 of cast ewes and rams were forward with a plain show of sheep on offer, heavier well fleshed ewes dearer on the week as well as the best ewes in very short supply. Many more ewes needed each week going forward to satisfy the 19 active buyers around ring side.
Heavy ewes topped at £325 for Texel ewes shown Lagan Hill Farms.
Light ewes topped at £184 for Easycare ewes from R Harrison & Sons, Peddar Hill, Longtown.
Rams topped at £330 for Texels from RG Kellett, Errington, Hexham.
