C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 10,067 sheep comprising of 117 spring lambs, 5,569 hoggs and 4,381 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 14th May 2026.

NEW SEASON SPRING LAMBS

An increased entry of 117 spring lambs

An increased show of prime lambs forward, inspec lambs proved very good to sell. In the current climate the trade is very buoyant and all labs that are ready to go should be brought forward for sale for maximum returns.

Top price per head of £240 for Texel lambs from R Johnston, Kimmeter Green, Annan.

Top per kilo of 476p for Texel lambs shown by JB Ackerley, Milton Mains, Brampton.

PRIME HOGGS

A larger entry of 5,569 prime hoggs forward sold very well with all well fed hoggs in big demand. Lean under finished hoggs proved more difficult to place.

All classes of well finished hoggs were in big demand proving short of purchaser requirements.

Top price of 521p per kilo for Texel hoggs from Glendoe Estate with top per head of £275 for Texels shown by Messrs Beard, Dormansteads, Roweltown.

CAST EWES AND RAMS

A much larger show of 4,381 cast ewes and rams forward for the time of year sold to huge rates of return, especially the handy weight ewes. More required for next weeks sale as the festival draws nearer.

Texel ewes sold to a top of £365 from RL & AR Phillips, Fir Trees, Harrogate.

Charollais sold to £300 from J Wales, Thackwood, Penrith.  

Blackfaces peaked at £190 from Evistones Farm, Rochester with Cheviot ewes selling to £188 from F Ross, Easter Aberchalder, Inverness.

Rams topped at £315 for a Texel from Beckfoot Farms.

CAST COWS

An improved offering of cast cows were forward and continued to meet a competitive trade. The sale topped at 306p for a great Limousin shown by J Graham & Sons, Orchard Farm, Hawick with top per head of £2,622 for another tremendous cow from RS Conley & Son, Barrasford Green, Hexham.
