C & D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 2,153 Store Hoggs and 121 Breeding Sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 17th March 2026

A smaller show of ewes and lambs at foot remain a strong trade for all classes, topping the sale was a Texel ewe with a single lamb at foot from WN & JC Gilhespy, Tedcastle Farm realising £200 per life.

A mixed show of in lamb ewes met a strong demand with well-bred strong ewes being short of buyer’s requirements.

A slightly smaller show of store hoggs forward met by a ring side full of purchasers with new faces appearing each week on the look for numbers. Countless pens above £150 for short keep hoggs and the longer keep hoggs consistently above £100. Sale topped twice at £182 for two pens of strong Texel cross hoggs from IT & KF Carruthers, Glenzierfoot, Dumfriesshire.
