Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward 1,276 Scottish Lowland breeding sheep and 6,901 Scottish  store lambs, feeding ewes and cast rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 9th September 2025.

Topping the Gimmer trade was noted vendor W J & J G Bell, Kinninghall, Arbourlaw, Hawick who sold pure bred Texels to £410, in which this run of pure Texels averaged £332. Suffolk gimmers topped at £300 for a pure Suffolk from W J & J G Bell, Kinninghall, Arbourlaw, Hawick. Mules sold to a very buoyant trade topping at £235 by W J & J G Bell, Kinninghall, Arbourlaw, Hawick. A fantastic run of Suffolk cross and Texel cross ewe lambs were on offer from Philiphaugh Estate, averaging £189 topping at £195 for 18 tremendously bred Suffolk cross ewe lambs.

A larger show of store sheep forward on the week. A much larger entry of longer keep lambs forward with a shortage of short keep lambs. Many new faces appearing around the ringside took advantage of the numbers of store sheep placed in front of them.  Topping today were a pen of Texels from I Thompson, Newbiggin realising  £137.

Here at Longtown Auction Mart we held our first Cheviot & Blackface store lamb sale with a show of 1,000 Cheviots and 1,129 Blackfaces, topping the Cheviot section was a pen of lambs from Tanlaw Hill, Lyneholm House realising £122. Topping the Blackface section was a pen of Blackface tup lambs from D Mcwhirter, Kirkton Drive realising £108.
