Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Reports

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 3,983 store hoggs, feeding ewes and cast rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 18th February 2025.

Store Hoggs (3,382)A larger show of hoggs were forward with a very mixed show of quality on offer and a strong demand for all classes.

Top price of the day goes to E B Lishman, Fell Lane Farm for a fantastic Beltex hogg realising £180. An outstanding run of 84 Beltex and Texel cross hoggs were up for grabs from A Williamson, Dykehead Farm, averaging a healthy £155 per head.

Feeding Ewes and Cast Rams (601) – A much larger show of feeding ewes were on offer this week with scanning ewes starting to come out of the woodwork.

Top price of the day went to M R Mccornick, Boreland at £200 for a strong Texel cross ewe.

Breeding Sheep

1,463 In lamb sheep and dry hoggs forward.  

Topping the sale at £310 for 5 pure texel gimmers was Halmyre Farming, Gelston.

This tremendous dispersal of Cheviot Mule, North of England Mule and Texel cross ewes went on to average £222. L & N Shuttleworth’s part dispersal of Texel cross and Scotch Mule ewes averaged £252, topping at £270 for this unbelievable class of stock ewes, a true credit to the vendor.

Geld Ewe hoggs topped at £230 for pair of sharp Park type Cheviots from M Strang-Steel, Philiphaugh Estate, followed by a pen of 14 Parkies, realising £215 from the same home.
