C & D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 352 Store Hoggs and 1809 Breeding Sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 5th May 2026
A massive show of outfits on offer looking slightly easier on the week for leaner ewes with younger lambs at foot. Strong couples sell away with great ease as men look for numbers of splitting outfits. Ewes and lambs top at £182 per life for a strong Texel four crop ewe with a Beltex lamb at foot from J D M Thomson, Pilmuir Farm.
On offer was the fantastic dispersal of Cheviot Mule ewes with Texel cross lambs at foot from J & A Coatsworth, Tile Sheds Farm averaging a tremendous £144 per life.
Hoggs and lambs top at £205 per life from MW & CM Ridley, Shitlington Hall for a pen of 5 Texel cross hoggs with 5 Beltex cross Lambs at foot, this pen previously went on the win the very strong class in the show and took the championship on the day.
Wholesale average of £133 per life.

A sweeping up show forward as the store hoggs season looks to be ending. Feeding sheep of all classes still in very high demand with purchasers still on the look for numbers. Texel hoggs top the sale at £174 from Douglas & Co, Nethertofts. Closely followed by a pen of Blackface tup hoggs at £172 M Rorison, Clonrae.

Sale topped twice at £200 for three Texel ewes from AJ & PJ Pickworth, Walley Thorn. Secondly for a Charolais ewe from T M Ewart, Barkbeth. Cast tups top at £225 for a Suffolk tup from J Jackson, Cumstone Farm.
