C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 5,697 sheep comprising of 1,907 prime lambs and 3,790 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 16th July 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
A larger show of 1,907 lambs forward to the same competitive ring of purchasers ensuring all classes sold to the same rates of return as last weeks trade. A shortage of numbers nationwide ensured Longtown customers were rewarded. Well bred and well finished lambs were in full flow through the ring in Longtown, shown in full bloom to vendor advantage, selling to premium returns. Commercial grass fed lambs found some slight resistance, albeit still looking well sold.
Well fed lambs continue to be wanted for the coming weeks, still being sold to vendor advantage.
Top price per head of £258 for Texels from Messrs Fleming, The Anvil.
Top per kilo of 434.9p for Beltex lambs from J. Muir & Son, Cleughbrae.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
An increased but very mixed show of 3,790 cast ewes and rams sold to a full contingent of purchasers all eager for supplies, ensuring all classes easily maintained recent rates of return.
An outstanding run of 512 Continental ewes descended on Longtown from Messrs W. & C. Ingram, Logie Durno, Aberdeenshire which sold way beyond expectations levelling at a very impressive £231 per head.
More cast ewes are actively sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy an ever growing demand at Longtown.
