C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 6,023 sheep comprising of 2,472 prime lambs and 3,551 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 23rd July 2026.
PRIME LAMBS
A larger show of 2,472 lambs forward with trade being better than expected. Best heavies still breached £200 on numerous occasions with best exports breaching 400ppk. Prime lambs are still a marvellous trade for the time of year with fed lambs now receiving a premium in comparison to grass fed lambs.
Top price per head of £220 for Beltex lambs from R Pinder, Edisford Bridge, Clitheroe who also achieved the top per kilo of 414p.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
A similar show of 3,551 cast ewes and rams sold to a very buoyant trade and sold beyond expectations. Commercial over fat ewes seeing the largest rise on the week with all other classes realising last weeks very high rates of return and in some cases surpassing last weeks trading.
More cast ewes are actively sought after on a weekly basis to satisfy an ever growing demand at Longtown.

Texel ewes sold to a top of £340 for Texel ewes from J & J Campbell, Dinnans, Whithorn.
Suffolk ewes topped at £242 for Suffolk x ewes consigned by Chaseside.
Mule ewes sold to biblical rates of return with several penfulls of heavy mules breaching £200. Topping at £232 for a pen of huge Scotch bred ewes consigned by M/s Wallace, Blairshinnoch.
North Country Cheviot ewes sold to a huge enquiry with Dallas Allen, Humbleheugh stealing the limelight with his run of expertly finished ewes topping at an eye watering £238 and £235 respectfully, achieving an average of £209 for 51 sold.
Light ewes selling to £180 for Cheviots shown by D & E Waugh, Effgill, Langholm.
Rams topped at £280 for Texels from MJ & CM Hutchinson, Fala Hill, Heriot.
