C & D Auction Marts held their early breeding sheep sale with a catalogued entry of 1,400 at Longtown on Tuesday 18th August. A fantastic show of quality sheep met spirited bidding to huge ringside of bidders. Selling to a top of £470 for a pair of pure Suffolk gimmers from Messrs Bell, Kinning Hall who sold others at £410, £390 and £375. The highlight of the sale was the dispersal of the early breeding flock from Messrs Nicolson, the knock whose run of Suffolk x and Texel x ewes were sold in full bloom and met considerable interest selling to a top of £335 & £315 for Texel x gimmers and Suffolk x ewes at £308, £295 (x3), £290 (x2), selling 429 ewes to average £281.17.

C & D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of 3,377 Store Sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 18th August 2026.

A larger show of store lambs forward on the week, with a shortage of short-term keeping lambs on offer and a lot of lambs quoted £6 to £8 dearer on the week. Majority of the show being longer term lambs being in strong demand as more faces appear around ring side looking for numbers. Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.

Included in the sale was the annual show of Mule wether lambs, ably judged by Ben Haigh, Hightown whose awards were as followed:-

 1st prize (and awarded the Ian Rutter Memorial Trophy) – Orthwaite Hall £138

 2nd prize  – The Laws £116

 3rd prize – Laverhay £109

Lambs topped at £165 for a fantastic Beltex tup lamb from A Johnston, Nelson Hill.
