The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 25 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 34 over thirty month cattle, 130 spring lambs, 3,747 prime hoggs and 3,342 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 15th May 2014.

Some good quality prime cattle forward and more handyweights required. Best sorts sold a shade easier but plainer cattle similar. Top price to 233.5p for a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green.

Overall average of 261.6p per kilo (SQQ 264.2p). More lambs required to meet buyers requirements. Producers are urged to keep drawing lambs at lighter weights.

All hoggs carrying good flesh sold to extreme rates, especially export type hoggs with heavyweight hoggs being short of buyers requirements. Top price of £126 per head for Texels from C.J. Putt, Branteth, with a top per kilo of 277p for Texels from Messrs Miller, Allerby Hall. The overall sale average was 226.6p per kilo (SQQ 227.6p).
