Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 8 prime cattle, 1 young bull, 12 over thirty month cattle, 5,443 prime hoggs and 2,736 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd January 2015.
Prime cattle were very short of requirements and more needed on a weekly basis. Top price of 211.5p for a Charolais heifers shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen.

A similar show of 5,443 prime hoggs forward to a full ring of buyers all keen for sheep again. All classes of hoggs were similar on the week with 34-40 kilo hoggs in abundance and a shortage of good quality export weight hoggs. Heavy hoggs also scarcer too. The sale averaged 193.4p/kg (SQQ 197p). Top price of 259p per kilo for Beltex from Oakwood and to £116 per head for Texels from Sunnycroft.
