Longtown Primestock Sale Report
The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 11 prime cattle, 3 young bulls, 5 OTM cattle, 8,228 prime hoggs and 3,491 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 19th March 2015.
OTM cattle were a similar trade to last week and prime bulls extremely good to sell. The prime cattle were slightly cheaper but very much in line with the national trend.

The largest show in years of 8,228 prime hoggs were forward and averaged a very healthy 202.9p per kilo (SQQ 206.5p). Trade was as good as seen anywhere this week and with heavy hoggs to the fore in most other centres, the large show of 6,528 export and lightweight hoggs ensuring a fine trade all day. Heavy hoggs similar on the week. Top of 293p per kilo for Beltex from Oakwood and to £132 per head for Texels from Byreburnside.

The 3,491 cast ewes and rams were a similar trade on the week and look set to remain easily sold for the foreseeable future. Rams to £160 for Texels from Falla and Charollais from Riverhill. Heavy ewes to £175 for Texels from Craig Douglas. Hill ewes to £107 for Cheviots from Raeburnfoot.
