Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 18 prime cattle, 25 OTM cattle, 4,006 prime hoggs and 2,584 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 7th April 2016.
Another good show of quality prime cattle maintained last week’s high rates, more are required to satisfy demand. The sale topped at 223.5p for a lovely Limousin heifer sold by A & W J Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green, bought by Mr D Kemp. Others to 221.5p also from Messrs Taylor purchased by M J Wharton Butchers, Wigton. Limousin bullocks topped at 214.5p shown by J&J&D Taylor, Englishtown.

More cows on offer saw trade continue at recent prices with grazing cows the best to sell. More of all classes are required on a weekly basis. The top call of the day was £1115 for a British Blue cow from D & Y Wilson, Plumpe Farm.

A larger show of 4,006 hoggs were forward to the usual full ring of buyers, trade for all classes slightly easier on the week following the national trend especially for 50kg+ hoggs. Best quality hoggs well short of buyer requirements, with export and lightweight easily sold. Sale was topped at £120 twice from Beltex from East Raffles and Suffolks from Kilnford Croft. Top price per kilo was 286p for Beltex from East Raffles. Sale average 185.3p (SQQ 190p).
