Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 24 cattle, 4,720 prime lambs and 5,761 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 23rd November 2017.
A similar entry of 24 cast cows, with mainly plainer lean cows on offer, but trade was good for all classes. The sale topped at 122p for a Limousin sold by BM & Z Harrison, Clarghyll, with black & white cows selling to 120p from E A Dodd, Roanstree. Top price per head was £1,064 for a Limousin bull from R J Anderson, Penchrise. Black and white cows peaked at £1,044 from E A Dodd, Roanstree.

Another larger entry of 4,720 prime lambs were forward to the usual ring of buyers, with averages similar on the week despite lesser trades mid week. Lighter lambs under 45kg dearer, especially with good flesh, best quality lambs short of requirements. Heavy lambs over 45kg easier on the week, apart from the best kinds.
Sale topped at 257p for wonderful Beltex lambs from G Anderson, Nether Stenries, Dumfries. Top price per head of £105 for a pen of tremendous Beltex lambs from M & W Fotheringham, Drumcairn, Perth. Overall sale average 173.6p (SQQ 176.6p).

Texel ewes to £151 from Chaseside.
