Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 5,837 sheep comprising of 3,698 prime hoggs, 62 spring lambs and 2,077 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 5th May 2022.

A smaller offering of cattle was forward and continued to sell at recent rates, topping at £1,155 for a Galloway from S Busby & Co., Unthank, Langholm.

A larger show of 62 spring lambs were forward, topping at £150 and 357ppk for a pen of Texel lambs consigned by R Johnston, Kimmeter Green, Annan.  

A smaller show of 3,698 prime hoggs were forward

Beltex hoggs topped the price per kilo at 355p from TC Findlay & Son, Petty Farm, Fyvie.

Top price per head of £200 for Beltex hoggs shown by CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.

An overall sale average of 273.1ppk (SQQ 283.8ppk) was achieved.

Hill ewes topped at £133 for Cheviots from Gillesbie Farms, Lockerbie with Blackface ewes selling at £124 from Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Alston.

Rams topping at £235 for Texels from The Firm of L Macvie & Co., Langton Lees, Duns.
