Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,046 sheep comprising of 1,676 prime lambs and 4,370 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 28th July 2022.
A small offering of cattle were forward to a competitive ringside of buyer ensuring recent high rates were easily maintained, with more numbers required on a weekly basis as always. The sale topped at 218p for Beef Shorthorns from FR Crew, The Gall, Lockerbie with Angus cows selling to £1,421 from TN Cavers & Co., Sorbie, Langholm.
A smaller show of 1,676 prime lambs were forward sold to the same ring of purchasers, ensuring all classes were well bid for. Trade was better than most centers at the beginning of the week being better than expected, albeit a drop of 30p on the week.
Top price per kilo of 305p for Beltex lambs from M Lee, Coalfell, Brampton.
Top price per head of £158 for expertly well finished heavy Texel lambs consigned by M/s T Holmes, Nutholm, Lockerbie.

A much larger entry of 4,370 cast ewes and rams, heavy ewes still maintaining recent high rates of return with countless pens of better bred Texel ewes breaching £210, whilst a big increase of leaner ewes saw them easier on the week.
Heavy ewes sold to £265 per head for Texel ewes from Eastside.
Mule ewes sold to £145 from M & SJ Bell, Hensol, Kirkcudbright and form DWA Parrish & Partners, Hassendeanburn, Hawick.
Hill ewes topped at £121 for Cheviots from RW & SD Flintoff, Sourhope, Yetholm.
Rams sold to £220 for Suffolks from AM & L Sutherland, Carran, Caithness.
