Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 9,610 sheep comprising of 5,734 prime lambs and 3,876 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 29th December 2022.

A similar show of 5,734 prime lambs were forward to a reduced ringside of buyers, with all classes of lambs seeing marginally reduced values in line with other centres nationwide. Well fleshed lightweight and export lambs were the trade of the day selling to a top price per kilo of 304p for Blue Texel lambs from Cottage Farm.  

Top price per head of £166 for Texel lambs shown by Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns.  

Achieving an overall average 240.8p (SQQ 243.9p)

A similar show of 3,876 cast ewes and rams forward. Heavy ewes of all classes being short of buyer requirements and selling to a strong trade, with Mules and Blackface ewes proving harder to cash on the week as numbers of cast ewes continue to flood out nationwide.

Texel ewes topped at £265 and £255 from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns.  

Cheviots sold to £105 consigned by Messrs Hepburn & Co., North House, Hawick.   

Rams topped at £158 for Suffolks from Cottage Farm.
