Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 11,090 sheep comprising of 6,061 prime hoggs and 5,029 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 16th February 2023.
Cast cows continue to sell at recent high rates of return with all buyers keen to purchase. More numbers are required on a weekly basis to satisfy demand. The sale topped at £1,406 for an Angus from TN Cavers & Co., Sorbie, Langholm with top price per kilo of 206p for Luings from J & M Turner, Kildalloig, Campbeltown.

A much larger show of 6,061 prime hoggs were forward. Another mixed show of hoggs, handy weight hoggs and export hoggs were the trade of the day whilst heavier hoggs proved slightly harder to place. Well finished hoggs are still wanted every week here at Longtown.

A larger show of 5,029 cast ewes and rams forward. All classes of ewes maintained last week’s high rates of return as customers flock from all over the British Isles to take advantage of the competitive ring of purchasers here at Longtown.
Texel ewes topped at £250 from Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Raughton Head.
Hill ewes to £116 for Blackfaces from K Spence, North Corrielaw, Corrie.
Rams sold to £200 for Charollais from Heatherglen.
