Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,242 sheep comprising of 2,610 prime hoggs, 488 spring lambs and 3,144 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 1st June 2023.
A larger offering of cast cows were forward. All classes easily maintain recent high rates with more numbers required on a weekly basis. The sale topped at 272p for Limousins from A McNair & Son, Stroneskar, Argyll with Charolais to 252p from W & A Forster, The Nook, Penton. Top per head of £1,757 and £1,575 for Limousin cows from The Nook.

A larger entry of 488 spring lambs forward. Spring lambs sold to an increased ring of purchasers ensuring all classes were competitively bid for. In line with national trends, as more lambs come onto the market, the trade would be slightly easier on the week. Well bred lambs and well finished lambs still remain a n good demand and are keenly sought after for the coming weeks.
