Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 8,757 sheep comprising of 404 Spring Lambs, 3,967 hoggs and 4,386 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 29th  May 2025.

PRIME LAMBS

The week commencing 26th May 2025 sees Thursday's trade at Longtown blow Monday's trade away with some vendors quoting a £10 rise on Monday's trade. The facts speak for themselves as a tidy show of 404 lambs went under the hammer selling to no fewer than 16 purchasers ensuring a big trade from start to finish.  Longtown nestles nicely at the top of tree again this week with further demand expected for all classes next week.

Trade for in spec lambs proved to be in massive demand and way short of purchaser requirements. Numbers are wanted at Longtown to fulfil orders for retained competitive customers. Please don’t hesitate to contact our auctioneers for all enquires and further advice on marketing your lambs.

PRIME HOGGS

Well fed fleshed hoggs proved to be good to sell with the heavy hoggs seeing the biggest rise on the week. Under finished hoggs sold to realisation.

Top price per head of £196 for Beltex from M. & W. Fotheringham, Drumcairn and for Texels from Beckside Farms.

A Huge show of 4,386 cast ewes and rams descended on Longtown with all classes maintaining recent high rates of return. Keep them moving as trade looks solid until August.

More ewes are required on a weekly basis and will be sold to vendor advantage at Longtown.
