Longtown Primestock Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 8,470 sheep comprising of 4,160 lambs and 4,310 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 4th September 2025.
PRIME LAMBS
A larger show of 4,160 prime lambs forward including just short of 1,000 first draw Easy Care lambs consigned from East Fortissat, Lanarkshire. Prime lambs witnessed a substantial two tier trade with fed lambs proving very good sell whilst leaner grass fed lambs still met some resistance.
Market averages are still in front of last year, as heavy lambs still in big demand and way short of purchaser requirements.
Top price of 379p per kilo for Beltex from Standing Stone Farm, top per head of £192 for Beltex from Allanshaws.

CAST EWES AND RAMS
Another great entry of 4,310 cast ewes and rams sold to an increased ring of purchasers ensuring all classes were competitively bid for. Lean lightweight ewes saw a reduction in price on last weeks very high rates of return whilst heavy ewes still sold very well easily maintaining last weeks trade.
Heavy ewes to £335 for Texels from Field Side, light ewes topped at £152 for Easy Cares from East Fortissat with rams to £215 for Texels from Harper Hill.
