Longtown Kelso Replacement Sale Report

At Longtown on Sunday 13th September, C & D Auction Marts Ltd held the second of their Kelso replacement sales, this one being for Charollais and Crossbred rams.

220 were forward with an 84% selling rate and a very satisfactory overall average of £526.
The Charollais section opened the sale and a grand entry of quality shearlings averaged £532 with lambs levelling at £420.  Top Charollais was a shearling from Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Raughtonhead which went at £800 to S. Griffiths, Maes Alyn.  Radley Pedigree Livestock, Dumfries and S. Coghill, Muce Farm, Birsay, Orkney each sold shearlings at £750 with £700 Charollais sales from Messrs Wales, S. Coghill and H.W. Sloan, Riggheads.

Lot 79 Sold for top price of £1500 from Messrs JW Gibb Toftcombs

 A well-presented entry of Crossbred shearlings sold to £1,500, paid by Easterhouse Farms, Wishaw to J. W. Gibb, Toftcombs, Biggar for a Beltex cross Texel.  Alan Taylor, Heathery Hall, Thankerton had sales of Beltex crosses at £1,250 and £1,100, twice, to J.M. Retson & Co., Maidencots, E.B. Lishman, Barrasford and J. & A. McCulloch, Glentoo.  Three rams made the £1,000 and these were from Heathery Hall, M. Dunlop, Corstane and Messrs Graham & Son, Hallrigg.  The Heathery Hall average was £933 for nine sheep.

Other Crossbreds sold to £950 & £900, Heathery Hall; £900, £800 & £780, Cracrop; £850 Hallrigg; £900 & £700, Kingside; £800, Upper Auchenlay; £750 & £680, Corstane; £700, Radley Livestock and £650 from Kingside, Whitstonhill and Thackwood.  Suffolk cross Texels were led at £600, thrice, from Allanshaws.
