Longtown Shorthorns to 2,400gns

At the June Sale of Breeding Cattle at Longtown Mart on Tuesday 13th June 2023, an attractive entry of Pedigree Beef Shorthorn Females sold to a top of 2,400gns twice. Both these bids were for heifers with calves from Mr P. Scott Taylor's Barnaigh herd from Kilbarchan.

Barnaigh Lovely Xotic 13th sold for 2,400 gns

The first of these was Barnaigh Lovely Xotic 13th, a Cairnsmore Kickass Jack daughter with bull calf at foot and purchsed by Messrs Morton, Lochend, Denny.

Barnaigh Isla 9th sold for 2,400 gns

The other at this price, with a heifer calf at foot was Barnaigh Isla 9th, again by the Cairnsmore bull and sold to S.J. Thomas, Kemplee, Morland, Penrith.

Limelane Marguerite sold for 2,050 gns

T.A. & J. Swinbank, Limelane Shorthorns, Brafferton, Darlington sold a 2018 cow, Limelane Marguerite with a heifer calf at 2,050gns to Messrs Morton and the same herd sold three other cows with calves at 1,800gns each. Cows and heifers with calves averaged £1,776 overall.

Beef Shorthorn maiden heifers met a strong commercial trade with a number of new entrants to the breed present at the sale. At 1,800gns, Messrs Brough, Cotland, Tinwald, sold Broughs Desiree Rae by Glenarrif Manduro with others from Messrs Brough to 1,700gns. 1,800gns was also given twice to Messrs Swinbank, Limelane for Coldrochie Mischief daughters, with others from Limelane and Fieldhouse to 1,600gns and an overall average of £1,568.

Galloway x Shorthorn Heifer with AA Calf sold for 2,200 pounds

The non-pedigree section was topped by a smart run of Galloway cross Shorthorn heifers with calves at foot from Messrs McIntosh, Borthwickshiels which sold to £2,120, £2,100, £2,020 and £2,000.

The next sale of Pedigree Beef Shorthorns at Longtown with be the annual Breed Society sale on Monday 28th August.
