Sheep Dog Sale

C&D Auction Marts conducted an on field of working dogs on Friday 10th November 2023 at Shandford Farm, Fern, Brechin, Angus by kind permission of W Mather & Sons.

There was a catalogued entry of 21 dogs comprising of Broken, Part Broken and Pups. We had a huge amount of interest from Lincolnshire to Shetland, and a well-supported ringside of locals.

Broken

Our top price of the day went to George Simpson, Forgue, with his much sought after dog Llangwm Ben, a black/white and tan, rising 3 year old. The hammer fell at 3,700gns to a telephone bidder. Sired by Madog Mot (C Pritchard) dam Llangwm Gael (A Owen) Ben exuded style and confidence in his performance today, coming off the back of a 2nd place finish at Strathnaver at the weekend. He is fully trained, used to ATV and pick up, great with kids and will go on to be a tremendous asset in his new home.

Geordie Dey, Bridge of Don entry, Burnvale Dave peaked at 2,900gns. Dave, sired by Vic Morris (Glyn) dam David Henderson (Jewel) is a B&W January 2020 born dog. Dave’s breeding showed in his run today, and the potential he has as an excellent farm dog for his new owner, local farmer Mike Littlejohn, Glenesk.

Alan Wilkie, Kinrive entry was the outstanding Strathcanaird Vic. A black/white and tan 3-year 3-month-old dog, sired by Sango Jim (D M MacMillan) dam Vicky (S J Grant) he’s an able dog, good on the hill and works with big bulk of sheep. Selling to Jim Ferguson for 1,900gns.

Reece Brown, Acharn had the gorgeous Gin. Gin is a tri/blue merle 2-year-old bitch which attracted a lot of attention pre-sale. She is a superb all-rounder, coming on well on the hill, with plenty of drive and power on bulk. The final bid was 1,600gns to Robin Littlejohn.

Part Broken

1,000gns was achieved twice in this section.

Firstly, from Kevin Howlett, Crieff for his bitch the fantastic Fern. A sweet B&W 3-year-old bitch, sire Sandy Mculloch (Sam) dam Ross Henderson (Jude). Excellent nature, jumps on bike and pick up and is ready for the next level of training. She was purchased by Donald, Lednathie Estate.

Secondly goes to Paul Simpson’s entry June. A delightful black/white and tan a rising 2-year-old bitch, sire Glanygors Mirk dam Antar Pip. June is doing small outruns, working well at hand and has a kind nature. She showed herself off very well today, finding a new home with Alec Smith.

Pups

Topping the pup trade was a gorgeous black/white and tan 10-week-old dog from Alan Wilkie, Kinrive. He’s off a good working bitch and showed a lot of interest in the sheep today. He was purchased by Davie Cowie, Bridge of Dye for 300gns.

Paul Simpson’s entry, rocking Rodney a 5-month black/white and tan dog, sire Jacobsdale Bruce dam Meg. A wonderfully bred dog, looking keen at the sheep with a nice nature. Rodney sold for 200gns and found his new home with Simon and Laura, Hunthill Estates.
