Longtown Store Cattle Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc held their Special January Sale of Store Cattle, Suckler Calves and Breeding Cattle at Longtown on Tuesday 21st January 2014.

STORE CATTLE

An increased number of store cattle sold saw the averages a shade up on the year with a full ring of buyers ensuring vendors were happy with returns.  Top price to £1,270 for a Limousin bullock shown by J.A. & D. Forster, Gillalees, with British Blue Bullocks selling to £1,250 (x5) from A. & J.N. Story, Newbiggin.  Limousin Heifers sold to £1,180 also from Messrs Story, Newbiggin.

Breeding cattle met a flying trade with the highlight of the sale the part dispersal from G. McGimpsey & Co., D’Mainholm, whose run of British Blue & Limousin cows and Heiferswith Limousin calves at foot averaged £1,822.86 and topped at £2,200 for a Limousin heifer with Limousin bull calf.
