Longtown Store & Breeding Cattle Sale Report


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 46 store cattle & 24 breeding cattle at their fortnightly sale on Tuesday 22nd July 2014.

A packed ringside of keen bidders saw trade every bit as dear as previous weeks.  Top price to £900 for a Simmental bullock shown by T & H Armstrong, West Craigs.  More required on a fortnightly basis.

Breeding Cattle

An excellent show of 24 breeding cattle on offer from Messrs JW & ES Woodmass, Howard House, Gilsland which were a dispersal of cows and calves.  This outstanding run of cattle attracted a wide range of keen bidders and met a flying trade, averaging £1638.89 for 2nd calvers onwards.  The top price was £2,400 for an 8 year old British Blue Cow with a Limousin bull calf, soon followed at £2,300 for a similar outfit.
