Longtown Suckler Calf Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had their show & sale of 634 suckler calves on Saturday 7th October. Trade for the best end was very dear and better than expected, with most vendors similar or up on last year’s averages. The whole sale averaged £993.53. Credit must go to all vendors for turning their cattle out to such a high standard considering the testing summer.

Judging was carried out by Mr David Dickinson who awarded the championship to a Limousin bullock from W.H. & D.A. Gass, Nunscleugh realised £1,340 bought by Smith Bros, The View. The reserve champion went to a British Blue bullock shown by Alex A. Roskell & Partners, Laverhay which sold to £1,190 bought by the judge. The cup for the best Charolais went to W.G. & H.M. Kyle, Spoutbank selling at £1,240 to E.R. Topping, Galehall. The show was kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets.
