Longtown Store Cattle Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts held the annual Special Catalogued Sale of 505 store cattle and feeding bulls on Saturday 2nd October 2021 at Longtown Auction.

An outstanding show of seriously well-bred cattle, which were a credit to all vendors who presented cattle forward, they were in mighty form, selling to a full ring side of local and distant potential purchasers ensuring prices surpassed vendors expectations and achieving a sale average in excess of £90 up on the year.

Nunscleugh

Champion from Messrs Gass Nunscleugh sold for £2000

An outstanding show of cattle were put before master judge Elaine Sedgewick, Longmyers Farm, Co Durham. After wading through the preliminary classes, Elaine found her champion beast in a very stylish black Limousin cross heifer, which was sired by Gunnerfleet Lasting, consigned by regular vendors M/s WH & DA Gass, Nunscleugh. The reserve champion was a Charolais bullock shown by W.G. & H.M. Kyle, Spoutbank, who also received the cup for the best Charolais. The show was kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets.

Gallowberry

Limousin x Heifer sold for £2250 from G Mitchinson & Sons Gallowberry

The finest show of heifers ever to grace the ring at Longtown sold to blistering rates topping the sale at £2,250 for a very stylish Limousin cross, blue roaned heifer which is sired by Haltcliffe Marcus, consigned by M/s G Mitchinson & Son, Gallowberry, Kirkcambeck, who also had heifers to £1,700. M/s WH & DA Gass, Nunscleugh also had a fantastic show of heifers forward topping at £2,000 for the pre sale show champion, others to £1,950.

Steers topped at £1,500 for the first prized any other breed steer, a shapley Limousin again consigned by M/s WH & DA Gass, Nunscleugh.

A super run of Charolais cross cattle forward in fine form consigned by M/s RI & VA Telford, High Parkfoot, topping at £1,440 on two separate occasions and achieving an average of £1,281 for 11 sold.

Also, a very impressive run of Charolais cattle consigned by M/s WG & HM Kyle, Spoutbank caught the eye after there leading steer achieved best Charolais beast on show and the reserve overall champion realising £1,420. Charolais cattle were in serious demand proving very good to sell.

Producers are commended for the outstanding show of quality that was presented for sale.  A lot of hard work and breeding had gone into these cattle and it was duly noted by prospective purchasers who were very impressed with the cattle put before them at Longtown.
